چکیده

The classic classification scheme for Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) was recently challenged by the discovery of so-called changing-state (changing-look) AGNs (CSAGNs). physical mechanism behind this phenomenon is still a matter open debate and samples are too small serendipitous nature to provide robust answers. In order tackle problem, we need design methods that able detect AGN right in act changing-state. Here present an anomaly detection (AD) technique designed identify light curves with anomalous behaviors massive datasets. main aim CSAGN at different stages transition, but it can also be used more general purposes, such as cleaning datasets variability analyses. We from Zwicky Transient Facility data release 5 (ZTF DR5), containing sample 230,451 classes. ZTF DR5 were modeled Variational Recurrent Autoencoder (VRAE) architecture, allowed us obtain set attributes VRAE latent space describes behaviour our sample. These then features Isolation Forest (IF) algorithm, detector "one class" kind problem. reconstruction errors IF score select 8,809 anomalies. anomalies dominated bogus candidates, 75 promising candidates.

Spectral line variability amplitudes in AGNs ⋆ , ⋆ ⋆

We present the results of a long-term variability campaign of very broad-line AGNs with line widths broader than FWHM > 5000 kms −1. The main goal of our investigation was to study whether the widths of the optical broad emission lines are correlated with the optical intensity variations on timescales of years. Our AGN sample consisted of 10 objects. We detected a significant correlation betwee...

Optical and X-ray Variability of AGNs

I present new comparisons of AGN optical, UV, and X-ray variations. These reveal complex relationships between the different passbands that can change with time in a given object. While there is evidence from several objects that X-ray and optical activity levels are correlated on long timescales, variations on shorter timescales can occur independently. It is proposed that the combination of c...

Spectroscopic Diagnostics for AGNs

A review of the spectroscopic tools needed to characterize AGNs is presented. This review focusses on ultraviolet, optical and infrared emission-line diagnostics specifically designed to help differentiate AGNs from starburst-dominated galaxies. The strengths and weaknesses of these methods are discussed in the context of on-going and future AGN surveys.

AGNs and galaxy interactions

We perform a statistical analysis of AGN host characteristics and nuclear activity for AGNs in pairs and without companions. Our study concerns a sample of AGNs derived from the SDSS-DR4 data by Kauffmann et al (2003) and pair galaxies obtained from the same data set by Alonso et al. (2006). An eye-ball classification of images of 1607 close pairs (rp < 25 kpc h , ∆V < 350 km s) according to th...

Metallicity measurements in AGNs

Measuring metallicity in the nuclear regions of AGNs is difficult because only a few lines are observed and ionization correction becomes a major problem. Nitrogen to carbon ratio has been widely used as an indicator for metallicity, but precise measurements have been lacking. We made such measurements for the first time using a wide baseline of ionization states with observations from FUSE, HS...
